Conor McGregor Takes Out Heat Mascot in Bizarre NBA Finals Promo

MIAMI (AP) — Former UFC champion Conor McGregor knocked out the Miami Heat mascot in the middle of a game gone wrong.

Burnie — more specifically, the man in Burnie’s suit — briefly sought medical attention Friday night after taking two punches from McGregor during a third-quarter stoppage in play. Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Heat and the Denver Nuggets.

The Heat said Saturday that the employee, who was not identified, had been given painkillers and was resting at home.

McGregor was there as a promotional gimmick for a painkiller spray – and was booed by many in the Miami crowd before the song even started. The flame mascot wore oversized boxing gloves and a robe similar to what a fighter would wear to enter the ring for a fight. McGregor hit Burnie with a left hook, knocking him down, then hit the mascot again after he hit the ground.

McGregor then attempted to “spray” the mascot with the painkiller, while several members of the Heat’s promotional team dragged Burnie off the court.

McGregor has not fought since injuring his left leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His last victory was in January 2020.
